Winter Preparations

Everywhere that you look, it appears that summer has given away not to fall, but to winter. There’s no slowing out of summer, going from 100 degrees then 90’s then 80 and so forth. Nope, not this year, in fact, we’ve gone from 100 straight to the 50’s with rain, snow and yes even tornados. It doesn’t seem to matter where you live at, this drastic of a change is present everywhere. What that means to you is that you need to get ready now and not delay in doing those things that will make you safe for the winter.

The first thing that you’re going to need to do is get your flu and pneumonia shots. While they aren’t any fun to get, they will save you a lot of missed time from work and the possibility of not spending time in the hospital. I for one have never come across someone that says, “yeah pick me, I want to go spend time in the hospital!” But there are plenty to select from that will get flu and pneumonia shots so that they don’t have to spend any time in them. One of the reasons people don’t get flu and pneumonia shots is that they don’t want to go to their doctors and have to wait and pay the high cost. There’s where going to an Urgent Care can save you time and money. You can set an appointment, show up get your shot and be gone before you know it.

Another thing to consider is getting supplies for your home and office. Things like, flashlights, batteries and radios that are battery operated to last until help comes, first aid supplies, blankets to keep you warm and anything else that’s needed for safety. Then consider that you’re going to need food and water. We’re not talking about anything fancy, but rather supplies that will last a week or two in the event that help can’t come to you quickly.

Vitamins are a great help at this time of year, especially vitamin C! This particular vitamin helps to ward off colds, sore throats and most any other type of illness that tends to plague the common man during the winter. It’s something that you can stock up on and be prepared because it’s not a matter of if you will need “C”, it’s a matter of when!

These are some basic things to get you going. If you were to start with just these simple things, you’re going to be well on your way to a healthy and productive winter!
